The theme of this week was all about collaboration versus competition—a tale of two forces that often define our paths in life. As I reflected on this dichotomy, I couldn't help but be inspired by the stories of individuals who chose to embrace collaboration, finding strength and purpose in unity rather than rivalry.
One such story comes from a mastermind colleague, who recently attended a talk where she unexpectedly encountered her biggest competitor. Initially, she felt a pang of apprehension at the sight of her rival as a speaker at the event. Yet, as she watched her competitor take the stage, something remarkable happened. Instead of engaging in a sales pitch or flaunting her own achievements, the competitor shared valuable insights and knowledge with the audience. In that moment, my friend had an epiphany. She realized that their respective strengths and perspectives could complement each other rather than clash. What began as a rivalry transformed into a potential partnership—a testament to the power of collaboration to transcend competition.
Another inspiring story on the same theme comes from two sisters whom I had the privilege of interviewing on my podcast this week. Raised in a culture that often pits women against each other, these sisters defied societal norms by choosing collaboration over competition. Despite being only 20 months apart, doing everything together, pursuing similar career paths at one point one got divorced and they weren’t as close anymore. Through open communication and mutual respect, they discovered that their combined efforts yielded far greater results than any individual achievement could.
