How I Stay Motivated With These 11 Tricks

Good morning!

We all have had those days, maybe even weeks where we just don’t want to do anything, we are just feeling blah and are uninspired. When this happens, what drives you?

How do you stay motivated?

Here’s 11 tricks I use to stay motivated that might work for you:

  1. Stop judging your lack of motivation. Stop judging and criticizing yourself. If you are using words and thoughts towards yourself that you would never use with a friend. Then Stop it! Instead, I want you to catch yourself, acknowledge the thought was there and choose to substitute the thought for a more empowering one.

  2. Check-in with yourself daily and know it’s ok, it’s just a phase. Every morning when you wake up, check-in with yourself. Ask yourself the following questions: a. How am I feeling today? b. What do I need today?| c. How can I give myself a bit of that need today?

  3. Put a time limit to your pity party. If you’re feeling like crap, if something bad happened to you, allow yourself to vent and have your pity party with 3 people, after that it’s time to finish up the party and not focus on it anymore. You want to start shifting the energy.

  4. Express those feelings. If you’re feeling sad, frustrated, irritated give space to those feelings. Don’t repress them, because usually unexpressed feelings will turn into depression. Instead, let the feelings come out and if you need to put a timer on them, do so. Scream your frustration inside your car –– Make sure all the windows are rolled up.– Yell your anger out into a pillow. Just set a timer if you need to.

  5. Move the energy Usually, our lack of motivation comes from the energy that’s been stuck, feelings that haven’t been expressed. If you get up and move: dance, go for a run, go for a swim, or go for a simple walk around the block what this will do is get you out of your head and more into your body. You’ll move that stuck energy and might get yourself inspired again.

  6. Give yourself permission to procrastinate for a specific amount of time. Again, this is not about not allowing yourself to procrastinate, give your brain permission to procrastinate, just put it into a time frame so that you don’t get carried away.

  7. Go out into Nature Nature is the medicine for the soul. When you’re feeling uninspired and with lack of motivation, just get out, listen to the birds, feel the sun on your face, go for a hike, listen to moving water. Let spirit speak to you through nature.

  8. Be appreciative I know this sounds a bit cliché but take a breath and for 5 minutes straight look around you and write out everything you’re grateful for. Don’t just make a list, really feel appreciated.

  9. Acknowledge yourself A lot of us might have the practice of having gratitude journaling, and this is great. I invite you to also write down in this journal at least 5 things per day that you acknowledge yourself for. It doesn’t matter if what you did was big or small. Just write it down. With time you will be strengthening that muscle and learning to validate yourself.

  10. Reward yourself for taking action Besides acknowledging yourself you might want to set up some reward system for taking action when you weren’t even inspired. You did it! You did a micro-movement to get you going again. Remember that one movement in front of another ends up creating momentum.

  11. Look for the gifts Set an intention that “today the universe is bringing me wonderful gifts and surprises” By expecting gifts and surprises you will get them. There is something powerful about setting our intentions. Be open to see what comes your way.

How about you, what kinds of strategies do you have in your toolbox to get motivated?

I’m wishing you a wonderful day full of love and abundance!
